CROWLEY – Douglas E. Sargent, 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 19, 2012, after a sudden illness.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Crowley. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home in Burleson.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Kennedy, and parents, William and Edna Sargent.
Survivors: Wife, Dortha Sargent; daughters, Linda Scott and Debbie McPhee; brothers, Richard and Alan Sargent; grandchildren, Stacey Smith, Cathy Pohoreske, Douglas Caldwell, Brandon Scott, Jamie McPhee and Brian McPhee; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Samuel William Kinser

Samuel William Kinser obits BURLESON — Samuel William Kinser, 63, passed away Wedndesday, May 16, 2012.
Funeral: Noon, Monday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home Chapel, Delvin Wiles officiating. Interment: 2 p.m. Monday at the Dallas Fort Worth National.  Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Samuel William Kinser was born July 24, 1948 in Galveston, Texas. He was the ninth of twelve children born to Elwin and Iona Kinser. He started school at Friendswood, Texas and attended thru the second grade. The family then moved to Hasty, Colorado in 1957, where he attended Lakeview school. He graduated from high school in 1967 in McClave, Colorado.

Sam enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1971. He was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany where he met his lovely wife, Brigitte whom he married September 28, 1973. They made their home in Germany for four more years. He was then stationed at Fort Hood, Texas for two years, then in Baumholder, Germany  for three years and in 1982 to Fort Riley, Kansas. After serving at Fort Riley, he decided to end his Army career and attend college, earning his business degree. During this time he enlisted in the National Guard and was stationed in Kerrville, Texas. While in Kerrville, Sam and Brigitte adopted their son, Casey Samuel. Sam’s career flourished in the National Guard and promotion followed quickly. Retiring after thirty-four years of devoted service as a Sergeant-Major, he returned to his home in Burleson, Texas, where he lived out his life with his family.
Survivors: wife, Brigitte; son, Casey; seven sisters, two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and two brothers, Jacob and Gerald.

George W. Searcy

CROWLEY – George Wade Searcy passed away peacefully on May 11th, 2012, at the age of 71, at his home in Crowley, Texas.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Tuesday May 15th 2012 at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Worth, Texas, with Kenneth Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at Caddo Cemetery in Joshua, Texas.  There will be a Visitation Monday evening from 6-8 at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home.

George was born May 27th, 1940 in Bandera County, Texas, to A.J. (Shorty) and Eura Searcy. He attended school in Bandera, TX. He attended college at Sul Ross State University. After college he drove a truck professionally for a number of years in El Paso and Fort Worth then did contract remodeling until he retired.  In 1976 he married Gloria Ann Ragland. They have lived in the Fort Worth area since 1973.

After retiring, he enjoyed rebuilding his old ‘53 CJ3A Willis Jeep, carpentry, reading, painting and mowing on his John Deer tractor. And, more than anything George loved spending time with his grandkids.

SURVIVORS: George is survived by his wife Gloria, of Crowley, one son; Steven Searcy and daughter-in-law Lisa of Las Vegas, Nevada, two daughters: Angela McPherson and son-in-law Lloyd of Temple, Texas: Kristy Westbrook Amble and son-in-law Geoff of Crowley, Texas. George also has six grandchildren; Jasetin McPherson, Macy McPherson, Rowdy Westbrook, Spencer Amble, Megan Searcy and Colby Searcy.

He is preceded in death by: his parents Shorty and Eura Searcy, his brothers Glen and Elmo Searcy,   his sister Ima Jean Stevens, and son-in law Larry Westbrook.

Dean Mardis Sponsler

Dean Mardis Sponsler obits FORT WORTH – Dean Mardis Sponsler, 92, a retired chief master sergeant, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012.

Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Monday in Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home Chapel.

Dean was born May 23, 1919 in Humeston, Iowa.  He was the youngest of six children born to Jacob and Mary Sponsler. Jacob died when he was one year old. His mother married again but the man deserted the family. She had to take in laundry to help support and raise the children.  He was the high school class valedictorian.  Dean received an associate degree from the American Business Institute in Des Moines, Iowa.

He joined the Iowa National Guard in 1936 as part of the Calvary/Army Air Corps.  He was drafted into the US Army in 1943 and was discharged in 1945 followed by joining the Air National Guard, and worked as an operations technician of the 124th Fighter Squadron in Des Moines, Iowa.  The unit was activated in 1951 for the Korean War.  Arabia, Japan and Germany were among his numerous assignments, highlighted by several years as NCOIC of Air Force Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington DC. For his service there, he received the Joint Chiefs of Staff Commendation Medal. Dean was one of the first to receive the super enlisted ranks of Senior Master Sergeant (E8) and Chief Master Sargeant (E9). In 1974 he retired from the military with over 33 years of active service.

After his retirement he returned to his home town of Humeston, Iowa and eventually  became postmaster and commander of the local American Legion Post.  While living there he and Katy also jointly researched and wrote several books on family history.
In 1995 they moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida and moved on to Burleson, Texas in 2007.  both Dean and Katy enjoyed living in Heritage Place since that time.

Survivors: Dean is survived by his wife Katy, his wife of nearly 74 years. They were blessed with three children: Fred Sponsler, Roy Sponsler and Deana Langer, who provided their parents with seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  In the past few years he was a dedicated caregiver to Katy who had developed memory problems.  He was a wonderful man who made his 92 years count. He will be forever missed by his entire family as well as his numerous friends.

Charlotte Knight

Charlotte Knight, 82, a long-time resident of Baldwinsville, NY passed away Monday May 7 in the loving care of two of her sons while visiting Keller, Texas.  Born in 1929 in Ogdensburg, NY Charlotte was the daughter of the late Harold J. Frank and Dorothy Creighton Frank and step daughter of Ruth (Bennett) Frank.

She was a wonderful mother to 8 children.  Charlotte had a career as Caterer and Cook, and retired as the Manager of the Ray Middle School lunch program.  In her earlier years she was actively involved in the Baldwinsville Theatre Guild, Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps, Meals on Wheels and participated in both the singing choir and bell choir of Grace Episcopal Church.

Charlotte loved and lived for her family! She was a wonderful cook, she enjoyed books, puzzles, flowers, time on the St. Lawrence River, playing bridge and spending time with family and friends.  She had a wonderful smile and laugh that could light up any room.

She was predeceased by her sister Sara E. (Sally) Frank in 1982, a son, David Knight, in 1997, and former husband James P. Knight, in 2011.  Surviving are sons, James (Theresa) Knight of Hastings, Charles Knight of Liverpool, Timothy Knight of Keller, TX, and Jonathan Knight of Baldwinsville; daughters, Amy Knight of Absecon, NJ, Anne (Brian) Hess of Mohnton, PA, and Nancy (Matthew) Morin of Hamilton Square, NJ; sisters, Nathalie Forte of Rutland, Vt., Anne Christensen of Laguna Woods, CA; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Baldwinsville, NY on Saturday May 19th at 11:00 am.

The family welcomes you to a reception in the parish hall of the church, immediately following the services.

Laura Laverne Garrett

Laura Laverne Garrett, 69, passed away on Saturday May 5, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.

Visitation: Tuesday 10:00 A.M. until Noon to be followed by a graveside service at Caddo Cemetery in Joshua.

Laura was born on April 18, 1943 in Fort Worth to Howard and Helen Watson. She worked side by side with her husband, Bob, building homes. Laura enjoyed shopping, cooking and Traveling. She particularly loved the beach. Laura was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be dearly missed by those left to cherish her memory.

Faye Carol Wellborn, 93, passed away on Saturday May 5, 2012.

Faye is preceded in death by 2 sisters, 2 brothers and her husband, Curtis Wellborn.

She is survived by her son, Harold Wellborn and wife, Molly of Lubbock; daughter, Judith Whitten and husband, Wiley of Burleson; 8 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jo Ann Poynor

BURLESON – Jo Ann Poynor, 81, passed away on Thursday May 3, 2012.
Funeral: 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Bethesda Baptist Church in Burleson. A Luncheon will be held from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. Tuesday prior to the service, at the church. Visitation: 6-8 P.M. Monday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home in Burleson. Interment: Burleson Memorial Park.
Jo Ann worked many years for The National Weather Service, then went into business for herself. Once she retired she enjoyed traveling and various hobbies such quilting and provided many quilts to the John Peter Smith Hospital baby ward. Jo Ann was a devoted Christian, a loving mother grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jo Ann is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Poynor, brother, Claude Freeman and parents, Claude and Cordell Freeman.
Survivors: daughters, Kathryn DaVault and husband, Mike and Karen Lynne Fiscus and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Natalie Gregory and husband, Brian, Adam Fiscus and Fiance’, Leasa Mabe; step grandchildren, Shauna, Nathian, and Wesley DaVault; great grand children, Lindsey, Madelyn, Lillian and Presleigh Gregory, Connor Fiscus and Valon and Strader Mabe, and dear friend, Bill Hoskins.
